Recognizing Federal funding need and impact for individuals and families with low-income amid crisis.
We invite you to join us in recognizing National Community Development Week through three opportunity areas:
National Community Development Week (CD Week) is celebrated annually across the country in communities that receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Affordable Housing (HOME) funds from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The National Community Development Association (NCDA) in collaboration with the CDBG Coalition leads the promotional week initiative to educate the public about these federal programs that are often working behind the scenes to strengthen communities.
This year, it's more important than ever to recognize the funding need and impact of CDBG and HOME during the COVID-19 crisis. Individuals and families with low to moderate income rely on programs supported by these funding sources, such as but not limited to: food banks, homeless shelters, childcare, behavioral health support, and affordable housing. As unemployment continues to increase during this crisis, individuals and families will find support from their community organizations -- and those community organizations will find support from programs like CDBG. Follow along on social media with communities from across the country with hashtag #CDWEEK2020.
We had several public engagement events planned for CDWeek in collaboration with our grant partner community centers and nonprofit organizations. We look forward to rescheduling those events for 2021. In the meantime, please check out our resource collection of virtual opportunities to recognize CDWeek.

- We are promoting participation in the Census as CDBG and HOME allocations are based on formulas influenced by Census data including population, people in poverty, and characteristics of housing units Justification for CDBG and HOME projects are also supported by Census data. Therefore, the more accurate the Census data is by community members participating and making themselves counted, the more effective the CDBG and HOME funding is to improving communities across the country. If you have not yet done so, please respond to the Census now.
